Golden Roses Christmas Ornament

Golden Roses Christmas Ornament
Christmas craft projects handmade gifts

This ornament design combines beautiful gilded roses with intricate, winding stems for a truly timeless holiday look. It’s a fun and relaxing project to try this season, and I’ve included a video at the end of this post so you can follow along step by step. Let’s get started!

For this project, I used the following:

  • ceramic Christmas ornament
  • Golden fluid acrylic paint in Iridescent Bronze
  • small artist brushes

To start, make a very small cone shape for the center of the first rose. Add organic petal shapes around the cone, being sure to leave white space to define the petals. Keep adding three to four petals in each layer around the center, making them a bit larger as you go, until you are happy with the size and shape of your rose. Continue this process around the ornament. See photos below to get you started.

Next, you'll want to add a few larger, triangle shaped leaves around the roses. Again, be sure to leave those white spaces between the petals and the leaves.

After that, add your trailing stems, starting near one of the roses and moving across the ornament in graceful S-curves. Next, well add the tiny leaves to the stems. To do this, hold the brush so that the very tip is touching at first, apply more pressure as you pull away from the stem and then end with only the tip touching again. Watch the video at the end of this post if you would like to see how I make my leaves.

Continue all the way around the ornament, making the design as dense or as light as you like. If your ornament has a ceramic top like mine, paint that in the same gold color as your roses. And your ornament is ready to shine!
