Bring the beauty of an enchanted forest to your Christmas tree with this hand-painted ornament design. Golden ferns and subtle sparkles shimmer against a deep green background, creating a look that’s both magical and elegant. I’ve included a video at the end of this post so you can follow along and create your own!
For this project, I used the following:
- ceramic Christmas ornament
- acrylic paints of your choice. I used Arteza paints in Crimson Red and Prussian Green & Golden fluid acrylic paint in Iridescent Bronze
- small artist brushes
Start by painting your ornament a deep shade of green. To achieve the shade I used, I combined Prussian Green with a touch of Crimson Red. Let this completely dry.
Next, get out the gold paint and paint a single line to form the center of the first fern. To create each leaf of the fronds, start by lightly touching the tip of your brush to the stem, press down slightly as you pull outward, and finish with just the tip of the brush for a tapered edge. If you’d like to see this technique in action, be sure to watch the video at the end of this post. Repeat this process across the ornament.
Now it's time to add a touch of sparkle! Begin by painting a simple cross shape, making it slightly thicker at the center for a radiant effect. Then, add small dashes around the edges to create a twinkling look and scatter more of these sparkles across the ornament. To finish, paint dots in different sizes to represent distant stars. If your ornament has a ceramic top like mine, paint that in the same gold color.
With the final touches in place, your ornament is ready to add some magical sparkle to your Christmas tree!
